I’m using a Garmin C which has two ports that output NMEA data, but they do so with only two wires, a data in and a data out. Since I know one of you is using a Garmin , you had to have a way to do it. How did you fix the problem? Let me know if that does not answer your questions. Raymarine S Installation and Performace Problems I’ve got mine wired to the C as per Mike’s instructions and will be trying it in the morning, so a full report will follow. If I understood Mike’s instructions correctly, the S only needs input and does not need to output to the Garmin.

As such data out from the Garmin blue from port one or grey from port 2 goes to pin three orange on the S Pin 5 on the S goes to the black ground on the Garmin. If the S did need to “talk” to the Garmin, it would do so by hooking pin 3 on the S to the Garmin brown port 1 or violet port 2 and grounding the 1 pin on the S to the Garmin black ground.

How to Properly Install Marine Electronics Here are 13 expert tips that will keep your electronics here today and here tomorrow. By Wayne Kawamoto posted Jan 1st, at Trying to woo you and instill you with confidence, the packages scream “rugged,” “weather-proof,” “splashproof,” and yada, yada, yada. You make your choice, certain that once you install this baby, your life on the water will be sunshine and lollipops.

Not so fast, buddy. Poor installation practices can do a real number on your electronic equipment. For this very reason, we interviewed those harried tech support shock troops who work for the major electronics manufacturers to find out how their customers commonly cook their electronic units. We got a useful list of dos and taboos that may just keep you from being stuck up a cyber creek without a virtual paddle.

The most common situation that ruins electronic devices occurs when you install units directly to your boat’s electrical power. Regardless of whether you’re hooking up a GPS, autopilot, depthsounder, or radar, if you wire in too much power, say 24 volts to a device that’s only designed to accept 12, you can quickly end up with Kentucky Fried electronics.

Thanks for posting the link, I am anxious to install the Gateway and see the virtual gauges on my MFD. It seems the Gateway provides more information than the Smartcraft gauges.

Is it a “plug-and-play” arrangement or would you need an adapter? Robert posted The information was in the initial article I wrote in the thread.

This works fine, as of now.. I guess all the NMEA stuff just goes together on the bus.. This thing is from , and all the manual says about NMEA is that the standard was not properly defined when the plotter went into production ,and may, or may not need an software update??

March 23, Tiller pilot installation I often sail alone, and ordinary chores, food preparation, sail changes, chart work, and the like often require me to leave the tiller unattended for a time. Although my boat has a long keel and tracks well, it soon became clear that having a self-steering system would be a great asset. There are two basic types of electronic self-steering systems one for wheel-steered boats, the other for tiller-steered boats like mine.

There are numerous choices from numerous manufacturers; your search will be narrowed to some extent by what will work with your boat.

Connecting the Raymarine Autopilot to the Simrad NSS8 MFD. As I mentioned at the start, I was already considering a new autopilot so that I could integrate it with my existing multifunction display. I was unable to go for a Simrad autopilot due to availability and shipping. So Raymarine it was.

Electrical refit highlights include extensive electrical system upgrades with Blue Seas components, three batteries, Fusion marine stereo, Raymarine ST60 instruments, and chart plotter mounted on a custom angled pedestal guard. The plumbing systems also was overhauled with a new pressure water system, in-line water filter, a new head, a custom new holding tank and low-permeation sanitary hoses.

This boat has none of the scents which are common to boats with older sanitary systems. In addition, all gate valves have been replaced with new heavy bronze Groco seacocks with new hoses. Original plywood backing plates have all been replaced with new thick epoxy-bedded structural fiberglass backing plates. Structural refit activities included complete repair of age-typical stress cracking at keel-hull joint, and barrier coating with Interprotect E.

Side decks have undergone core replacement, and are very solid with professionally applied textured gel coat. Since that repair nearly all deck penetrations have had their core sections potted, and hardware bedded in butyl. Rigging refit included new side-stays and back-stay, new lifelines, new Boomkicker, and nearly all running rigging.

Testimonials We booked a sailboat with a local Massachusetts broker and were informed a week before the charter that the sailboat was not available and she had no replacement. We were highly disappointed as my dad, brother and father in law were flying in from across the country to sail for a week. I went on-line and found Bareboat Sailing Charters-Newport.

Jun 05,  · I have a Garmin GPS, Raymarine S1G Autopilot and Standard Horizon DSC VHF. (and Raymarine RL70 Radar/plotter) I would like the GPS position sent to the Autopilot and VHF. Am I correct in thinking that all I need to do is wire the GPS +ve and -ve NMEA “out” to the Autopilot “in” and then take the NMEA -ve and +ve from the autopilot “out” connection to the VHF -ve and +ve “in”.
